Issue No. 5

Tis' the season for Annual Reviews โ€“ don't be the grinch ๐Ÿ’š

Hey Reader,

As a retail veteran, there is something delightful about seeing retail activity at this time of year when you know that many efforts from the prior year culminate in just a few pivotal days. We have a rule in my household to not decorate for the Holidays until Thanksgiving has occurred. So all bets are off now!

It's also a time where many start to self-reflect both on their prior year professionally but personally too. Whether your company runs a formal Annual Review process or not, it is a great time to reflect with your team, and also look ahead to the next year.

Annual Reviews can create connection

It's a pivotal time of year where communication and trust can be built, or unfortunately broken. If you dread the Annual Review process, having to complete a self-evaluation, tout your latest accomplishments or have a difficult relationship with your superior, it can be a very stressful last few weeks of the year.

I've created a special email mini course on Leading Humanely with Compassionate and Effective Annual Reviews. Grab it at no-cost, and share it with your coworkers and boss to spark a dialog on your team philosophy and approaches to these connection opportunities.

What You'll Gain:

  • Five Insightful Emails: Packed with actionable tips and real-world advice on conducting annual reviews that are both humane and effective.
  • Practical Strategies: From building year-round trust to aligning individual and business goals, learn how to make each review count.
  • Expert Guidance: Benefit from Alison's extensive experience in leadership and her unique approach to nurturing professional growth.

The no-cost email includes hot tips and quickly implementable tactics for leaders to hold these spaces with their team to improve culture and promote well-being. The series is a really "pick-up-able" facilitation guide that you can use this year.

Leadership doesn't need to be lonely โ€“ join our next cohort experience

I'm excited to share that the second cohort of the Design Leader Accelerator is open for enrollment, with our kick-off beginning next week on January 8th. This is a mix of self-paced content and live group coaching. The current cohort is in full swing, and we are learning about Leading Through Others this upcoming week. Scaling your leadership and leading not only through authority with your direct reports, but also influencing cross-functional teams and resolving team dynamics and conflicts becomes essential to career growth โ€“ and is one of the four blockers to growth I'm hoping to remove for folks through this program.

This is the course I wish I had when I first started leading other people as a Manager. Leap-frog the initial awkward transition by picking up skills and frameworks alongside peers.
